Phuket, Thailand

DAY 55

Stayed in Kamala beach with a nice room with free breakfast on the beach so we wandered down had some food and let our eyes adjust to the bright sun and new beach. We rented a moped and cruised the island heading south along the coast checking out the beaches. Patong Beach which is the main city on the island is a mad house and full of old couples and lots of really unattractive fat people, most in speedo's or topless. We were kind of taken back by the whole scene and after walking the beach once we were ready to go to another spot. We hopped back on the bike and took off in search of a less touristy beach..

Since this was a well established town I thought it would be a good idea to go find a dentist to get my broken tooth fixed so we stopped at two places and I decided to make a appointment for the next day at the second one as it looked much cleaner and was more expensive, hopefully meaning better work.

We rode to some pretty nice beaches and up some really steep hills until the bike started to sputter out. With all the weight and hills the bike was sucking down gas and had finnally ran out. So there we were on the side of the road like uhh what do we do now.

Luckily a Canadian guy rode by who stopped and ended up riding to the next gas station and bringing us a bottle. Good stuff, now we are back on the road.

After that whole ordeal we checked out Karon and Kata beaches and then cruised past to a view point that had a great view of most of the coast line we had just drove.

It was getting close to sunset and we didn't want to be riding at night so we headed back to Kamala beach. We relaxed a bit in the room and then went out in search of a good seafood dinner. We found a local spot because most other restaurants were very expensive. We shared seafood fried rice and pad thai with prawns.

Our friends from California we met on the plane the day before told us about a bar called the Black Cat so we wandered around until we found it where we met up with them. They had some friends who were living there teaching English at a school there and knew the town in and out so we hopped on the back of their bikes and they showed us around. It was quite a night because they were like regulars at most of the bars and most places had "Butterflies" as they like to call them but they are really hookers and they were hysterical. They taught the women bad words and had unrepeatable nicknames for the guys which was a good laugh. We zipped around not staying at anywhere to long and talking about the island hearing their stories from the past 3 months living there. We ended the night around 2am, got some snacks and went off to bed.
