Pai Exploring

Day 13
Today we decided to take the truck around the surrounding areas and go exploring. Went to the ancient town and checked out a cool temple then continued through farmland looking for any interesting off-road trails off the main road.

We then went to a waterfall and watched the locals do crazy jumping and sliding off the rocks into ridiculously brown and shallow water. The chance to swim was very nice for us because we had only been in cities thus far.

We met another American guy named Deep at the falls learning about his trip which was coming to a end but was the same route we were on. He had very cool stories and we learned alot about how to go about the rest of our trip. After the waterfalls we explored more back roads and came across a pirranna farm which we chilled at for a bit. On our way back into Pai we came across two men in a back alley having a cock fight so we pulled over and watched for a while. This was a intense experience for both of us as we had never seen anything like it and the brutality of the sport made us both cringe. It was interesting to see how these two men arranged a simple fight with no spectators just for their own entertainment. It looked as though they let the cocks fight until one drew blood then separating them and wiping them down and inspecting their damage.

Hit some more trails by the river, almost got stuck and then returned to the hotel to hang out. I took a walk around town and found a basket court at a school, played with some kids and showed off dunking until I hurt my toe because I was playing with no shoes. Met some guys from England and we hung out on the back terrace on the river and watched the sunset before heading out on the town for the evening. Walked the street market eating from multible vendors and trying as many differnt things as we could. Found a travel agent and booked our bus and slow boat into Laos for two days later. We had to have the truck back by 11am tommorow so we packed up so that we were ready to leave by 7am.
