The VIP bus was not so VIP. The seats were so small I had to sit sideways with my legs in the isle the whole ride. The ride took about 4 hrs and we arrived just after dark in Vientiene, the capital of Laos.
Got a tuk to the center of town and looked for accommodation. Got a dorm room which is the first dorm room we have stayed in this entire trip. All showered the grime from our bus journey away and went out for dinner. We found a very cool martini bar with happy hour and relaxed feeling high class sipping James Bond Martinis.
After we walked along the Mai Khong river checking out the frogs and shrimps in buckets that some street vendors had for sale. We sat at a rooftop lounge and looked out at the river enjoying the view and having great conversation with some other Americans we met in the market. After the bar we met some really cool people by a crape vendor and hung on the street joking and laughing for a while and exchanging emails.
