Day 14
Got up at 6:30am after both of us having intense dreams. I dreamed that the police were rounding up all the tourists in town and arrested. The main Detective that was a old British guy that was trying to black mail for money in order to not be arrested. Chris was also arrested only I could not get him out no matter how much I paid and he was going to be stuck in Thai prison for 6 years. This made my sleep very unrelaxing and I woke up stressed and uncomfortable. It was one of those dreams where you really feel like it was real and when you wake up it takes a while to realize that it was just a dream and everything is ok.
Got out by 7am and hit the road. As we left town we realized we only had a quarter tank of diesel left and a long ways to go back to Chang Mai so for the first 60 km we were closely watching the gas gauge and scanning the road side for gas stations. Luckily I spotted a tiny shack where a scooter was getting gas so we turned around and got 200 baht worth of diesel from a makeshift gas pump out of a barrel in order to make it back.
When we got into town we checked into the MD house where the Canadian girls we had met before we left to Pai were staying. They had a group and we joined them for dinner at a french restaurant having Patte, Steak and Wine.
After dinner a few of us headed o a Moi Thai Boxing match. This was quite a show. Within the first 10 minutes we saw two intense knock outs making us all jump to our feet. The whole atmosphere was very exciting and we got rowdy as the fights progressed. Ali and I got into a shouting matching yelling "your my boy blue" so for most rounds we rooted for the boxer in the blue trunks just so we could yell that. One of the fights they blind folded three boxers and put them in the ring together letting them go at it swinging wildly and randomly at each other. The ref would antagonize and push them into each other to keep the fight going and he even got punched in the face a few times.
After seeing this we all got into it much more betting on fights with random locals. Although intense it was a very exilerating and a new experience. After the fights we went to the rooftop lounge again until everyone from dinner showed up and we took off together roaming the streets. We bought lanterns which the locals use for the upcoming festival in which you place a lit candle inside which fills the lantern with hot air and makes it rise into the sky. This was very cool and is said to bring you good luck.
